While there is still no cure for cancer, scientists are routinely making discoveries to help assist with treatment and pain management. A recent study conducted by scientists at Cardiff University looked at the use of aspirin to increase chances of survival for those diagnosed with various forms of cancer. Researchers analyzed 71 different studies on the effects of the drug and compared survival rates of 120,000 cancer patients who took a low dosage of aspirin with 400,000 patients who didn't.
The results of the study suggested that colon cancer patients who took an aspirin per day had a 25 percent increase in chance of survival. Similarly, survival rates improved for individuals with breast cancer (20 percent) and prostate cancer (15 percent). This builds upon a 2016 Harvard study, which specifically found a link between aspirin usage and increased survival rates among those with bowel cancer.
